The drey is a stick nest made by a flying squirrel.  It is a collection of sticks, bark, leaves, moss, hair, and lichen.  It has to be repaired by the flying squirrel so it doesn’t have any leaks.  I will put a collection of different things in here that you might find interesting.

FUN FACTS

If a flying squirrel wants to glide a far distance it needs a tall tree!  A normal glide for a flying squirrel is about 20 m although the longest glides have been recorded up to 60 m.  The longest recorded glide for a flying squirrel at Fundy National Park is 45 m.

Flying squirrels use many different trees for nests.  In our study we have found some squirrels using 8 or more trees over the period of the summer.  By sleeping in different places the flying squirrel has more safe places to hide from hungry predators.
