It's all about community ! |
Think you should get out more?
Elgin has a number of community organizations which add to the vitality and variety of our home place. Everyone benefits - from parents with young children to seniors to those simply looking for recreational exercise and fun. Come take part, lend a hand if you have time. The more the merrier!
The Community Endowment Fund co-sponsored by the Elgin Eco Association and the Elgin Women’s Institute currently has over $25,000 saved for developments and improvements in Elgin. We depend on fundraising through various community events such as EEA Pancake Suppers, the “Tour of Elgin” Mountain Bike Marathon and the WI Turkey Supper. But the key to reaching our goals -success in securing grants - depends in large part on membership numbers and demonstrated commitment.
Now, more than ever, set aside some time to make the Elgin area an even better place to live. |
Won't you join us ? |

New Horizons for Seniors
Elgin
Historical Project |
On Saturday March 31st 2007, the Elgin Eco Association presented the results of their local history project. This project was funded by the New Horizons for Seniors program and was designed to record a verbal and pictorial history of the community of
Elgin
. As many know,
Elgin
has a rich and colourful history that goes back to the first settler, John Geldart, in 1811.
Elgin
has seen many changes since that time, and this project has captured these changes.
Many of the best pictures (with related information) collected during the project have been made into a picture book. Copies of this book can be purchased directly from the Elgin Eco Association (call 756-3339) for $25.
