Spring . . . Summer . . . Any Season

COMMUNITY ENDOWMENT FUND signboard

Keep an eye on the sign at the Elgin ball field . . . The temperature continues to rise on the thermometer sign at the Elgin ball field. Elgin Women's Institute recently allocated an additional $2000 to the total. Elgin Eco Association has set aside another $3000. That's $19000 and rising!
After a highly successful "Tour of Elgin" Mountain Bike Marathon on October 4th, and as work begins on a community skating rink, it's clear that Elgin's recreational potential has reached new heights.

Elgin Cross-Country Ski & Snowshoe Event

Thanks to all those venturesome souls who came out for an active day on the trails. In this winter of record snowfall, there was no shortage of the white stuff . . . A good number had their passports signed off at the Mapleton snowshoe circuit including two local moms with their little ones in backpacks! Over at the van Geest farm, the Outdoor Enthusiasts from Riverview and the Corn Hill crowd (amongst others) thoroughly enjoyed the pristine rural setting. All were welcomed back to the Community Centre where EEA volunteers served up hot chocolate, bowls of chilli, and our local specialty dessert, gingerbread with maple whipped cream.

New Horizons for Seniors Elgin Historical Project

On Saturday March 31st 2007, the Elgin Eco Association presented the results of their local history project. This project was funded by the New Horizons for Seniors program and was designed to record a verbal and pictorial history of the community of Elgin . As many know, Elgin has a rich and colourful history that goes back to the first settler, John Geldart, in 1811. Elgin has seen many changes since that time, and this project has captured these changes.

Many of the best pictures (with related information) collected during the project have been made into a picture book. Copies of this book can be purchased directly from the Elgin Eco Association (call 756-3339) for $20, or they can simply be picked up at the Elgin Country Market for a cost of $25
